The short version

Navistar, Inc. reported a problem with the exhaust system manifold/header/muffler/tail pipe. Here is what owners need to know.

WHAT

The affected vehicles are equipped with a 6" diameter stack tail pipe, that may not have sufficient support. The unsupported weight of the upper stack tail pipe and vibration associated with normal vehicle operation over time may cause a crack of the weld joint between the inlet pipe and the flare expansion of the stack tail pipe, which may result in partial or full separation of the stack tail pipe from the vertical exhaust pipe.

WHY IT MATTERS

If the stack tail pipe separates from the exhaust pipe it can fall into the roadway possibly hitting another vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

WHAT TO DO

Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stack tail pipe with a one piece stack tail pipe, free of charge.
