Mercedes-Benz affected vehicles were manufactured without a driveshaft catch strap, allowing a loose driveshaft to strike the fuel tank.
The short version
Daimler Vans USA, LLC reported a problem with the driveline driveshaft. Here is what owners need to know.
The affected vehicles were manufactured without a driveshaft catch strap, allowing a loose driveshaft to strike the fuel tank. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 301, "Fuel System Integrity."
A loose driveshaft may strike and puncture the gas tank, resulting in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.
DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will install a driveshaft catch strap, free of charge.
