Toyota incorrect programming of the parking-assist electronic control unit (ECU) software, may cause the front camera image to appear on the multimedia display instead of the rear camera image when the shifter is placed into reverse.
The short version
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing reported a problem with the back over prevention display function. Here is what owners need to know.
Incorrect programming of the parking-assist electronic control unit (ECU) software, may cause the front camera image to appear on the multimedia display instead of the rear camera image when the shifter is placed into reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
A rearview camera that fails to display the correct image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
Take it to a dealer — they will reprogram the parking assist ECU, free of charge.
