The short version

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC reported a problem with the latches/locks/linkages. Here is what owners need to know.

WHAT

In certain types of crash events, the center console may unlatch, allowing the storage compartment to open. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact."

WHY IT MATTERS

A center console that opens during a crash can allow unsecured cargo to eject into the cabin, increasing the risk of injury.

WHAT TO DO

Take it to a dealer — they will replace the front center console storage compartment, free of charge.
