Ford park rod may fail to engage when the vehicle is placed in the park (P) position.
The short version
Ford Motor Company reported a problem with the internal park pawl. Here is what owners need to know.
The park rod may fail to engage when the vehicle is placed in the park (P) position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
A park rod that fails to engage can result in a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.
Take it to a dealer — they will replace the transmission park rod assembly, free of charge.
