The short version

Ford Motor Company reported a problem with the service brakes, hydraulic pedals and linkages. Here is what owners need to know.

WHAT

The brake booster pushrod retaining spring may not have been installed, which can allow the pushrod to disconnect from the brake pedal and cause a sudden loss of brake function. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems" and 105, "Hydraulic and electric brake systems."

WHY IT MATTERS

A sudden loss of brake function increases the risk of a crash.

WHAT TO DO

Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until they have been repaired, free of charge.
