Without regular tightening, the hitch bolts can loosen, allowing the top and bottom of the hitch to separate from each other, which could create a hazard and increase the risk of a crash.
Take it to a dealer — they will inspect, replace, and tighten the hitch bolts, as necessary, free of charge.
