The short version

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing reported a problem with the back over prevention software. Here is what owners need to know.

WHAT

A software error may cause the rearview image not to display when the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

WHY IT MATTERS

A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

WHAT TO DO

Take it to a dealer — they will update the multimedia display software, free of charge.
