The short version

Ford Motor Company reported a problem with the axle assembly axle shaft. Here is what owners need to know.

WHAT

The left rear axle half shaft may partially disengage from the power drive unit, which can result in a loss of drive power.

WHY IT MATTERS

A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. In addition, a half shaft that is not fully engaged to the primary drive unit can result in a vehicle rollaway if the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

WHAT TO DO

Take it to a dealer — they will inspect and replace the rear half shaft and power drive unit components as necessary, free of charge.
