Toyota electrical short circuit may occur within the tow converter printed circuit board, which can deactivate the electronic stability control system and cause the brake lights to remain illuminated.
The short version
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing reported a problem with the electrical system. Here is what owners need to know.
An electrical short circuit may occur within the tow converter printed circuit board, which can deactivate the electronic stability control system and cause the brake lights to remain illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards numbers 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems for Light Vehicles” and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Driving with a disabled electronic stability control system or continuously illuminated brake lights can increase the risk of a crash.
Take it to a dealer — they will replace the tow converter, free of charge.
