Owner action guide

  1. VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 26, 2026 — check your VIN now, on this site or on NHTSA.gov. A model match is not proof your vehicle is included.
  2. If your Expedition or Super Duty is included, contact your Ford dealer to schedule the free headlamp inspection. You do not have to wait for the owner letter (expected October 26).
  3. If the dashboard headlamp indicator lights up, avoid driving at night until the dealer has inspected the vehicle.
  4. Keep the recall numbers handy when you call: NHTSA 26V-606, Ford 26C43. Ford customer service: 1-866-436-7332.

The risk

Safety

LED chips in the headlamp assemblies may have been exposed to contamination at the chip supplier’s manufacturing facility. On Super Duty trucks, this can cause diminished or inoperative daytime running lamps and parking lamps (LED reflector or projector headlamps), and diminished or inoperative low and/or high beams (LED reflector headlamps). On the Expedition, the low and/or high beams on LED reflector headlamps can fade or fail. These vehicles may not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108. Reduced lighting increases the risk of a crash.

In plain terms: the lights that let you see — and the lights that let everyone else see you — can fade or die while you’re driving. The one warning you get is a dashboard indicator if the low or high beams go out. That is the whole risk.

What changes for owners

This is a new recall, reported to NHTSA on September 22, 2026. The key dates for owners: VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 26, 2026 — VIN checks now show this recall. Owner letters follow October 26.

If your Expedition or Super Duty is in the recall, the action is a free dealer inspection of both headlamp assemblies, with replacement only if an assembly fails. There is no do-not-drive or park-outside order — the remedy is inspection-first, at the dealer.

Remedy and cost

Dealers will inspect both the left-hand and right-hand headlamp assemblies, free of charge. If the inspection passes, nothing further is done. If an assembly fails inspection, the dealer replaces it.

Cost to owners: nothing. What the record does not promise: that your vehicle will need new headlamps — Ford estimates about 1% of the recalled vehicles actually carry the defect, so most inspections will pass with no replacement.

Questions owners ask

Q

Do I have to wait for the letter?

No. The letter is notification, not permission. VINs became searchable on October 26, 2026 — check your VIN now, and if your vehicle is included you can contact your dealer about the inspection. You do not have to wait for the November letter.

Q

Will my headlamps definitely be replaced?

Probably not. The dealer inspects both headlamp assemblies first; only assemblies that fail inspection get replaced. Ford estimates about 1% of the recalled vehicles actually carry the defect, so most inspections end with no replacement.

Q

Is there a do-not-drive or park-outside order?

No. The recall instructs owners to take the vehicle to a dealer for inspection — there is no park-outside or do-not-drive order in the filing.

Q

Is the inspection free?

Yes — the dealer inspection and any replacement are free of charge.
